Today Bandcamp is donating its proceeds to the ACLU, which has protected our civil liberties for decades. Yay. Recently, after receiving $24 million in donations, the ACLU joined venture capital firm Y Combinator to handle this new money. Venture capital firms make high risk investments in startup companies in exchange for equity (ownership) in such companies. Y combinator has not asked for equity in the ACLU, however, so it's unclear what's in it for them. The board of Y Combinator also happens to include Peter Thiel, who apparently doesn't believe in women's suffrage and has been trying to attain immortality, literally:
